Description

Description: Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is obtained from the fresh or dried leaves and tips of the Blue Gum Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Globulus) through steam distillation. The yield of essential oil from the plant material is between 1.2 and 3%.

Specific Characteristics: Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is a colorless to light yellow and sometimes greenish liquid. It has a characteristic fresh and spicy aroma reminiscent of camphor. The essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:3, ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The primary components include cineole, 1,8-cineole, and isomeric pinenes. P-cymene and gamma-terpinene are present in smaller quantities.

Applications: The components of Eucalyptus essential oil have medicinal properties. Indigenous Australians have long been aware of the effects of Eucalyptus, using chewed leaves on fresh wounds for better healing. The key component, 1,8-cineole, in combination with other active ingredients, facilitates rapid absorption through the skin with a coefficient of 95.

The classic use of Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is as an expectorant (mucolytic) in the bronchial area, often referred to as “oil for a cold.” In the case of bronchopneumonia (a particular type of lung inflammation mainly affecting the bronchial tubes), inhalation and rubs are recommended.

Eucalyptus essential oil also has strong antibacterial properties. Depending on the mode of administration, either as a compress, through inhalation, or as an antibiotic, different bacteria are targeted each time. It is also recommended for use against Impetigo (bacterial skin disease causing large sores), which is very dangerous in children. Similarly, the oil acts against fungi (antifungal action). Infections from Candida, especially those caused by a fungus strain of Candida, are treated with Eucalyptus-containing antibiotics. Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil has potent anti-inflammatory action and is used as a poultice, extract, bath oil, and through inhalation. It also acts as an antirheumatic and has a positive effect against arthritis (inflammatory joint disease).

Aromatherapy uses Eucalyptus essential oil to enhance concentration and mental stimulation. It also helps combat lethargy. Preferably applied through aromatic space and as bath or massage oil.

CAUTION: ALWAYS use diluted in a base oil or another solvent.
