Description

Description: Marjoram Essential Oil is obtained from the seeds of Marjoram (Foeniculum vulgare) through the steam distillation process. The yield in essential oil from the plant mass ranges between 1 and 6%.

Specific Characteristics: Marjoram essential oil is a colorless to pale yellow liquid. It has a characteristic, sweet, and warm aroma with hints of camphor. Marjoram essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:5 ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main component, up to 70%, is trans-anethole. Lemonene, methyl chavicol (estragole), and pinenes are also found in lower concentrations.

Applications in Cosmetics: The ingredients of Marjoram essential oil also have medicinal characteristics. Marjoram is already a historic remedy, described in the traditions of India, Egypt, and Crete. Marjoram essential oil mainly has digestive and antispasmodic properties. It regulates menstruation in dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), amenorrhea (absence of periods), and oligomenorrhea (extension of the menstrual cycle) due to its estrogen-like properties. Recommended applications include massages, wraps, or bath oil. In cases of dyspepsia, bloating, or aerophagia (excessive air swallowing), Marjoram essential oil has soothing and antispasmodic properties when used as bath oil or for massage. If the essential oil is applied to the area of the liver, it can stimulate bile flow, while in the case of acute bronchitis, inhalation can promote the detachment and removal of mucus and various secretions.

In cosmetics, Marjoram essential oil is used in the formulation of fragrances as well as an aromatic ingredient in soaps, shampoos, and other cleansing products. However, the majority of global production uses Marjoram essential oil as an aromatic ingredient in oral care products such as toothpaste and mouthwashes.

Marjoram essential oil is used in aromatherapy for its beneficial effects on the mental domain. Generally, to combat anxiety and fatigue, its use as a room fragrance, massage oil, or bath oil is recommended.

CAUTION: ALWAYS use diluted in a base oil or other solvent.
