Description

Description: Organic Calamus essential oil is derived through steam distillation of the roots of the genuine Calamus (Acorus calamus) plant. The yield ranges from 1.5% to 3.5%. The Calamus plant is a perennial rhizomatous plant, belonging to the Acorus genus in the Acoraceae family, native to India and Southeast Asia, also known as Indian calamus.

Special Characteristics: Organic Calamus essential oil is a liquid, yellow to brown in color. It has an earthy aroma with light and bitter notes. Compared to other essential oils, Organic Calamus essential oil is less soluble in alcohol (1:5, ethanol), but well soluble in vegetable oils and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main compounds are sesquiterpene ketones such as asarone or calamusenone. Limonene, linalool, camphor, and methyl-eugenol are present in lower concentrations. Depending on its origin, the oil contains varying amounts of β-asarone, with European oil usually containing up to 10%, while Indian oil may contain up to 90% β-asarone.

Applications: Small quantities of Organic Calamus essential oil are said to stimulate blood circulation and digestion.

In cosmetics, Organic Calamus essential oil is used for composing spicy, earthy notes in fragrances, as well as in amber and tobacco compositions.

In aromatherapy, Organic Calamus essential oil is used in aroma lamps, enhancing concentration and invigorating the senses.

CAUTION: ALWAYS use diluted in a base oil or another carrier.
