Description: Coriander essential oil is obtained from the plant Coriandrum sativum through the steam distillation process. The yield of essential oil from the plant material is between 0.5 and 0.1%.

Specific Characteristics: Coriander essential oil is typically a colorless to light yellow liquid. It has a floral, spicy-sweet aroma. The essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:8 ethanol 65%), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main components are linalool and saturated and unsaturated long-chain aldehydes such as decanal, dodecanal, dodecenal, and octanal. Isomeric geraniol, limonene, camphor, and pinene are present in smaller concentrations.

Applications: The components of coriander essential oil also have medicinal characteristics. It exhibits strong antiparasitic, bactericidal, and virucidal actions. Particularly for flu and cystitis caused by bacteria, its application through rubbing is recommended. Moreover, it stimulates the production of gastric fluids, enhancing appetite. It is also antispasmodic and carminative. Its application through poultices, bath oils, and massages can alleviate indigestion, enterocolitis, and intestinal sluggishness. Coriander essential oil also has analgesic effects on arthritis. Application through friction or as bath oil is highly recommended.

In aromatherapy, coriander essential oil is used to boost creative activity. It can treat mental fatigue, often associated with increased nervousness, migraines, and anxiety. Bath oils, frictions, and massages are recommended as applications.
