**Description:** Bergamot essential oil is obtained from the outer peel of the unripe fruit of the Bergamot tree (Citrus aurantium bergamia) through the process of cold expression. The yield of essential oil from the plant mass is 0.5%.

**Special Characteristics:** Bergamot essential oil is a yellow to brownish liquid. Chlorophyll contained in the cells can lead to the creation of green hues. It has a delicate and sweet aroma, with distinct lemon notes. Bergamot essential oil easily dissolves in alcohol (1:2, ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water.

**Applications in Cosmetics:** The pharmaceutical industry uses bergamot essential oil in products against respiratory diseases such as tonsillitis. It is also said to have antispasmodic effects, allowing the pharmaceutical industry to use it for the treatment of colic, indigestion, and flatulence. Additionally, as an additive in anti-inflammatory creams, it is said to provide relief for viral skin conditions such as herpes or shingles.

In the cosmetics industry, bergamot essential oil is mainly used in perfumery to create fragrances and in hair care products.

In aromatherapy, bergamot essential oil is said to relieve depressive moods. The fresh aroma reminiscent of citrus is said to soothe nerves.
