Description

Description: Chamomile essential oil is obtained from the flowers of Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) through steam distillation. The yield of essential oil from the plant material ranges between 0.5 and 1.7%.

Special Characteristics: Chamomile essential oil is a yellow to greenish-blue liquid. It has a fresh, sweet, herbal aroma with slightly fruity notes. The essential oil easily dissolves in alcohol (1:2 ethanol), carrier oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Key components include chamazulene, esters of angelic acid, chamaldehyde, and limonene.

Applications: The components of chamomile essential oil possess medicinal properties. Chamomile essential oil has a potent anti-inflammatory action against eczema, dermatitis, burns, rashes, or skin ulcers. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in arthritis, gingivitis, intestinal inflammation, kidney, and urinary bladder inflammation. Moreover, it has a strong anti-parasitic action. The recommended use of the oil is in aromatic candles and as bath or massage oil.

In cosmetics, Roman chamomile essential oil is used for fragrance composition and is often used in aromatic spaces. Roman chamomile essential oil is suitable for blending with bergamot, rose, lemon, geranium, jasmine, lavender, lemon balm, sage, myrrh, and neroli.

In aromatherapy, Roman chamomile essential oil is used for its anxiolytic and calming properties in conditions of hypersensitivity, nervousness, and insomnia.
